Snow-Line Orchard in Oak Glen: What to Know Before You Visit

If you’re planning a trip to Oak Glen, California, Snow-Line Orchard is one of those places that feels like a classic part of the Oak Glen experience. As a local, it’s one of my favorite stops when I want a bit of mountain air, donuts and relaxation!

Known for its historic packing shed, fresh apples, apple cider, famous mini cider donuts, beautiful picnic grounds, and mountain setting, Snow-Line is a great place to slow down and enjoy a fall day.

There is one important thing to know before you visit, though:

Snow-Line Orchard does not offer U-pick apples.

Instead, fresh-picked apples are available to purchase inside the packing shed. So, if your main goal is to pick apples directly from the trees, you’ll want to visit one of Oak Glen’s U-pick orchards. But if you’re looking for fresh apples, cider donuts, a historic orchard atmosphere, and a relaxing place to spend part of your day, Snow-Line is definitely worth adding to your Oak Glen itinerary.

The entrance comes up kinda quick, keep an eye out for this sign!

About Snow-Line Orchard

Snow-Line Orchard has been part of Oak Glen since 1898, when it was founded by Isaac Ford in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains.

Today, visitors can still experience some of the property’s history, including its original packing shed and historic cider mill.

The grounds also feature an old Italian chestnut tree and a spacious picnic area surrounded by mountain scenery, historic buildings, and seasonal foliage.

Snow-Line is a particularly nice stop if you want to experience the charm of an Oak Glen apple orchard without necessarily spending hours picking apples.

The picnic grounds are peaceful and lovely!

Can You Pick Apples at Snow-Line Orchard?

No. Snow-Line does not currently offer U-pick apples.

Instead, the orchard harvests its apples and sells fresh-picked varieties in the store throughout the apple season.

Depending on what is available during your visit, you may find different varieties that are good for:

  • Eating fresh
  • Baking
  • Apple pies and crisps
  • Applesauce
  • Cooking
  • Taking home as an Oak Glen souvenir

Apple varieties and availability change throughout the season, so what you find in September may be different from what is available later in the fall.

If apple picking is an important part of your trip, plan to combine Snow-Line with another Oak Glen orchard that offers U-pick apples. However, you can still walk on the paved road near the apple trees for a photo op or just to get a look at the operation:

Visit the Historic Packing Shed

One of my favorite things about Snow-Line is its historic packing shed.

Rather than walking into a modern farm store, you get more of that old-fashioned Oak Glen orchard experience.

Inside, you can shop for seasonal apples and other locally inspired products, including items such as:

  • Fresh apples
  • Apple cider
  • Wine and cider wine
  • Local honey
  • Artisan oils and balsamics
  • Farm-made products
  • Gifts and specialty foods

It’s a fun place to browse, especially if you want to bring a little bit of Oak Glen home with you.

Don’t Miss the Mini Apple Cider Donuts

For many visitors, the real star of Snow-Line Orchard isn’t the apples.

It’s the mini apple cider donuts.

These small donuts are made using Snow-Line’s apple cider and served hot with cinnamon sugar.

They are one of the foods Snow-Line is best known for, and they pair perfectly with fresh apple cider or coffee.

If you are visiting Oak Glen for the first time, I would definitely put these on your food list.

Tip: Fall weekends in Oak Glen can get extremely busy. If mini donuts are high on your priority list, arriving earlier in the day can make your visit much more enjoyable.

Enjoy them in the picnic area with some fresh cider!

Enjoy Apple Cider

You can’t visit Oak Glen during apple season without having some apple cider.

Snow-Line sells fresh cider along with its apples and other seasonal products.

Grab some cider and donuts and head outside to the picnic area for one of the simplest – and best – Oak Glen experiences.

Winery and Hard Cider for Adults

Snow-Line isn’t just an apple orchard. It also operates a winery and cidery.

Adults can visit the tasting area to sample Snow-Line’s wines and hard ciders or purchase something to enjoy.

That makes Snow-Line a particularly good stop for groups that include both families with kids and adults who want something a little different from the typical apple-orchard experience.

Can You Pick Raspberries at Snow-Line?

While Snow-Line does not offer U-pick apples, it does offer seasonal raspberry picking when raspberries are available.

Raspberry season depends on weather and growing conditions, so availability can change from year to year.

If raspberry picking is one of the reasons you want to visit, check with Snow-Line before making the drive.

Bring a Picnic – or Stay and Relax

One of the best things about Snow-Line is that you don’t necessarily need an activity planned.

The property has beautiful picnic grounds that make it easy to simply enjoy being in Oak Glen.

Pick up some apples, cider, and donuts and find a place to relax beneath the trees.

It’s especially nice during the fall when Oak Glen begins to feel cooler than the cities below and the trees around the orchards start showing their fall colors.

Is Snow-Line Orchard Good for Kids?

Yes. Snow-Line can be a fun stop with kids even though there isn’t U-pick apple picking.

Kids will especially enjoy:

  • Watching the mini cider donuts being made
  • Eating warm cinnamon-sugar donuts
  • Drinking apple cider
  • Exploring the historic orchard setting
  • Having a picnic
  • Shopping for apples
  • Seasonal raspberry picking when available

If your kids have their hearts set on actually picking apples, I recommend pairing Snow-Line with a nearby U-pick orchard.

That way, you get both experiences: apple picking at one stop and Snow-Line’s historic packing shed and cider donuts at another.

What to Buy at Snow-Line Orchard

If you’re wondering what to look for while you’re there, add these to your list:

  • Fresh-picked Oak Glen apples
  • Fresh apple cider
  • Mini apple cider donuts
  • Apple pie with ice cream, root beer floats are also available
  • Local honey
  • Specialty foods and gifts
  • Farm-made wine
  • Hard cider

Availability can vary by season, so part of the fun is seeing what is available when you visit.

Tips for Visiting Snow-Line Orchard

A little planning can make an Oak Glen visit much easier, especially during peak apple season.

Go Early on Fall Weekends

September and October weekends can be very busy throughout Oak Glen. Arriving earlier gives you more time to explore before the biggest crowds arrive.

The Road in is Narrow and Twisty

While it’s not too long off of the main road, it does hug a fairly steep drop-off and is a bit narrow – follow the signs and take it slow. Parking is free.

Don’t Expect U-Pick Apples

This is probably the most important thing to know.

If you specifically want to pick apples in Oak Glen, include another orchard on your itinerary. Visit Snow-Line for its fresh-picked apples, historic setting, cider, donuts, and picnic area instead.

Check Seasonal Availability

Apple varieties, raspberries, and other seasonal products can change throughout the year.

Always check current information directly here before making a special trip for a particular variety or activity. Additionally, they post current information on their Facebook page.

Is it Dog Friendly?

Yes, leashed pets are welcomed. There is even a dog watering station down behind the packing shed.

Don’t Plan on Purchasing a Full Meal Here

There are plenty of treats and some other packaged types of foods in the shop, but there is no restaurant or meals available here. However, if you’ve brought a picnic lunch from home to enjoy – this is one of my favorite places for that!

Leave Time to Relax

You don’t have to rush through Snow-Line.

Grab some donuts and cider and enjoy the picnic grounds. Oak Glen is much more enjoyable when you aren’t trying to squeeze every orchard into one day.

Where Is Snow-Line Orchard?

Snow-Line Orchard is located along Oak Glen Road at:

39400 Oak Glen Road
Oak Glen, CA 92399

Because hours and seasonal operations can change, I recommend checking the Snow-Line Orchard website or social media pages before visiting, particularly if you’re coming from Los Angeles, Orange County, or another part of Southern California.

Is Snow-Line Orchard Worth Visiting?

Yes – especially if you’re looking for the classic atmosphere that makes Oak Glen apple season so much fun.

Snow-Line also works really well as one stop on a larger Oak Glen itinerary.

You can pick apples at a U-pick orchard, stop at Snow-Line for cider donuts and fresh apples, have a picnic, and then continue exploring the other farms, shops, and attractions along Oak Glen Road.

For me, that’s one of the best ways to experience Oak Glen: don’t try to find one orchard that does everything. Visit several, and enjoy what makes each one different.
